Process of the Baby Blanket

I'm starting to build my merchandise selection. I'm at the time am in the sewing stage. In these photos I show you the process of how I layed out each corner.

After sewing my blanket together I then moved on to the stuffed animal, in this case I chose the Elephant.

This cute Elephant is accesorized with cute matching bows that is also the fabric used in the blanket. This particular elephant was made for a family friend so the eyes are made with bright green buttons.

I feel like I have been away for months! But I have returned to working on building O'Baby Fashions and I'm so excited to share with all my customers of today and customers of tomorrow my new baby layettes! That's right something NEW!

Firetrucks is a new Layette baby boy pattern. It really is so cute! My own little boy has a Kimono just like this one. It fits big as of right now; but each day he is growing and because the Kimono is made to fit until 6 months of age it is perfect for him to just lounge around the house in. Also perfect to go outside in. Because on a nice spring day no one wants to wear bulky jacket.

When I found this extremely cute hat pattern I was so excited! The hat fits 16" diameter around your baby's head.

Re-defining

It's crazy how a newborn can change your entire thought process, your daily routines and just your every thought. Hows he doing? had he pooped yet? Is he hungry? Is he tired? And then there is your first born how is she dealing with the new baby in our lives? Is she happy? Is she jealous?
My days have been going by so quick, playing toys changing diapers trying to keep a balance between two kids. In the mean time finding less time to focus on O' Baby Fashions. Although I find myself thinking about the business side of my life often finding myself excited to jump back into the flow, although finding myself spending any free time napping. Funny How a new baby re-defines your day, and thoughts.

I'm still working on the business plan getting together information needed, writing down goals and trying to look deep into my thoughts. I'm excited to say that I have recently bought a new basic stitch sewing machine I had been without one for a month. I'm looking forward to getting back into the groove and continue working on my spring summer activities. Thank you to all of you who have continued to follow my blog, and I hope for you to continue to do so. This year will be an exciting one for me , my family, and O' Baby Fashions.

A Little more Joy in Life

This week has been quiet possibly the most eventful week of my life. I gave birth to a wonderful, in my oppion handsom little boy Tuesday at 1:50 in the morning March 16th 2010! I must say my husband, and two year old daughter are both excited beyond belief.
Although this here is a business blog I had to share the exciting news, about the new addition to our family.

My daughter who you see in the first picture with my husband is enjoying being a big sister. As you can see she wouldn't look at the camera she was occupied with other things. Spent a few days in the hospital, that was hard on my little girl she was sad to find out mommy had to stay and she was going. So my goal was to get home as soon as I could and that's what I did. I went home Thursday and things have been moving fast. Since returning home we have been adjusting to the new routines of having a new baby around; but i'm happy to say that my family and I are doing well.

Today I took time and sat down at the computer and practiced my communication skills; or as I previously called it Step 1 by reaching out to other blogger's.
I read their thoughts, and commented on them. It was quiet exciting to see so many pages that originally looked the same way, but continued to gain personality throughout time. I noticed different themes, and colors. Each one sparked different interests. They all had established one thing that my blog has yet to accomplish: Readers.
2010 Goal on top of many other things is to establish a strong readership.

To consign or not to consign

To Consignment sell or not to Consignment shop that is the question for the day. I yesterday went to various consignment shops to inquire about selling my dresses; Although I never actually took my merchandise in to show and tell. I first talked with them to see what they had to say. Some were open to conversation others got straight to the point of the dates and what not they are excepting merchandise. The true road block was the merchandise I was trying to sell to them was of the wrong season that they were intrested in. So strike one! Strike two however was the few Consignment shops actually taking homemade baby cloths. That to me was not just two strike but also pretty much covered strike 3 as well.

So here I am thinking wow what kind of market have I gotten myself into?

So if your a Handmade baby cloths designer and sewer and what ever else would be the correct words to describe what we do. Please drop me a line at heidi@obabyfashions.com let me know what you come up with, What info do you have about consignment selling? Let me know. I would love to learn from you. And also if you your self sell Consignment items take a look at my shop if you don't mind let me know what you think!

I thought I would take today and share my new up and coming designer dress.
This might look familiar to those of you who make and sell the Pillow Case dress.. Because this is what I at O' Baby Fashions consider to be our own replica and personally designed O'Baby Pillow skirt dress. Note the difference the top is quiet similar only in the way of the ribbon that passes through the neck piece. Other then that the arm holes are dropped down more. For those extremely hot days it would allow extra air to flow though to help cool your little one off.
The skirt I feel is what really sets it apart from the other Pillow Cases dresses out there. Notice the flare of the skirt. Much like my other dresses.

Sales Where Are You?

I kept asking myself what I should all this blog post? I circled it around my head a few times wondering if this title would come off bad being that I the owner and sole employee of O'Baby Fashions would be admitting to you and any one else who may read this or keep up with my blog, that sales have been non existent. Yep that means I have yet to see a sale for months and months. I perfer not to say it makes me awfully sad. When I started out on this business venture I wanted to sell my cloths at a price that was fair to you the shopper but then I realize what honestly goes into cutting, sewing, and ironing the too cute for words (in my own opp ion) little baby girl or in some cases boy outfit. Hmm.. I thought I have to get my money out of it plus my time, and a little extra for the O'Baby Company. Well that didn't work I found in these rough economical times people who I considered my audience just could not see spending that much on an outfit. So here I am merchandise in my work room just waiting to find a home on a young child.

What to do? What to do?

So this is what I have come up with I enjoy shopping, and sewing for fabric so much that I have lowered all my prices. I have so many ideas and so little time to do them in. My fall line up is just lirking in my head just waiting to come out.

Giraffe Costume

My little baby girl's 2 nd Halloween is just days away, and I can remember last year she was just 3 weeks old. This year I am so excited because I have decided to make her costume.

I actually had many ideas of what to make for her; although I loved the giraffe costume idea. I decided on my basic baby sleeper pattern.
For the head piece I used the hat from a jacket pattern, and for the ears, and the antlers (does anyone really know what those things are called?) I used my imagination.

I loved making this absolutly cute costume for my daughter.
****Not to mentione she looks fantastic in her Giraffe costume. ****

Next year at O'Baby Fashions, I do plan on including costumes 09' fall lineup. I would also like for all my readers and shoppers to know that ANYTIME can be costume time!

Jack Skeleton Special Order

A close friend of mine came to me and requested a very special order. As her and I talked she mentioned that her daughter Loved Jack Skeleton -the Night Before Christmas-, and that she would love to have a take home outfit for him to come home in. So As her and I talked I started thinking hard about this fantastic opportunity for me to come up with something creative that would not only please her but also look great on her brand new grandson!

I then started going through all my baby patterns that I had; pulling a little from this one and this one, to develop this extremly cute costume.
I soon decided on a pajama pattern with footies; only instead of buttons i oppted for a zipper only because this black pen stripe fabric i was afraid would be too weak for the snap buttons.
For the zacket I decided on just a vest, and I folded down the corner edges and added a sturdy iron on fusible fabric. The coat tales on the back i did the same . The vest jacket would be closed off at the bottom of the V shape, with a single black button.

The black tie I knew would be what was going to pull the entire outfit together.. I decided on using a black sturdy felt, and added a black pom pom ball to the midde, and on the back i sewed on a small clear button. The tie would be then attached through a button hole of a white bib.
The Jack Skelelton project was great from begging to start! I am personally pleased with how it had turned out.
